Giving back to the communities we serve is essential to Cinderella Carpet One in Salinas.

We recently donated funds to help build the first fully inclusive and accessible playground in Salinas.  Tatum’s Garden, inspired by and named after Tatum Bakker, who was born with Spina Bifida, will be a custom one-of-a-kind and unique playground in Salinas.  It will be a virtual vegetable garden, with the playground theme and structures reflecting the rich agricultural heritage of the area.  It will incorporate cooperative games, accessible outdoor music areas, and accommodations for children with visual and auditory impairments, and sensory panels and handrails designed to include those children who may have a disability but are not confined to a wheelchair.

The dream began on Design Day on May 10, 2013 and to date they have raised over $600,000 from local residents and businesses for this wonderful play area that was designed and will be built by the community. 

There are ways for everyone to give on any level to this project, from sponsoring a $50 personalized fence picket that will enclose Tatum’s Garden, to larger gifts such as sponsoring a playground component, plus much more.  Other ways to help as they approach Build Week on September 10-15, will be the donation of materials needed for construction, such as bags of concrete, paint, tile and the recycled lumber needed to build the structures and ramps. 

Even more importantly, during Build Week they will need over 1,000 volunteers to help construct the playground plus on-site childcare for the workers, food committee volunteers and much more.

There is still time to get involved with this wonderful community project by helping with the fundraising efforts to reach the $1,000,000 goal or volunteering your time to help build the park.
