Flooring trends in 2012: Tile and scraped wood

The flooring you choose not only has to have the look you want but it needs to be appropriate for the type of activity in your home or office.  If it doesn't fit your lifestyle, then you need to find something that does. What is really great about the flooring options today is that there are so many beautiful choices for everyone.  Cinderella Carpet One in Salinas and San Luis Obispo maintain over 450 different flooring choices so we are sure to be able to find what you are looking for.
WHAT’S HOT IN TILE FLOORING?
Porcelain tile
While many people immediately associate porcelain with figurines and toilets, porcelain can be found in other places around the home, as well. On shower walls, countertops, and bathrooms.  But where it really shines is on the floor.
Porcelain comes in a variety of sizes, colors and finishes. Want the sophistication of marble tiles, but don't want to break the bank?  Porcelain floor tile looks great when it is put down and will look good for years to come with very little maintenance. In high traffic areas, porcelain floor tile is an excellent choice and will out perform other tiles in both long-term appearance and durability. Some porcelain floor tile is made to look like stone, and while it might hold up just as well, it will cost less.

2. Scraped wood flooring
Wood flooring has always been popular, but some people are afraid it won't hold up. One new trend is hand scraped wood flooring.  Few hardwood floors have more character than hand scraped flooring. Hand scraped flooring is traditionally composed of hand scraped flooring planks, rather than milled boards. And, much like other hand made building materials, the charm of these floors lies in the unique irregularities that result from the hand scraping process.  If you're interested in hand scraped flooring, contact Cinderella Carpet One about choosing the right wood, finish, and installation method for your home.

3. Engineered wood flooring
One of the latest and greatest advances in wood floors has been the introduction of engineered wood flooring, constructed of sandwiched finished wood and plywood.
Engineered wood flooring looks identical to solid wood flooring and can be sanded and refinished. But unlike solid wood that can twist and warp, this product stands up well in areas of moisture.  Since their invention in the 1960s, engineered wood floors have improved in appearance and performance, accounting for 30 percent of all the wood flooring sold in America today.

  1. Selecting the right material for your floors is difficult because of the number of styles and designs to choose from. The most important thing to go after is the quality. Buy the one that will last several years and easy to install. And, of course, keep your budget in mind and the size of your floors before making your decision.

  2. Thanks for your comment. You are exactly right. When you are choosing any type of flooring, price is always a consideration. The trick’s to not settle for inexpensive flooring when you can improve quality at a great price which will last longer, look better and add more value to your home.
