Three Beautiful Room Ideas for a Modern Family from Cinderella Carpet One

Cinderella Carpet One knows that today’s families want a beautiful, modern home that is comfortable for the entire family and holds up to an active lifestyle. These three rooms accomplish just that and with some smart purchases, they will stay beautiful for many years to come.

Light and Airy

Crisp white and clean lines are the epitome of modern but many families shy away
from white because they fear the stains and dirt will quickly ruin the look. The key to pulling together a family friendly room in white is a slipcovered sofa. Slipcovers in durable canvas or brushed cotton are easily washed and bleachable. Many white sofas are even sold with slipcovers that are custom fitted to the piece of furniture so you don’t have to worry about them looking sloppy.

The floor is another area where the fear of stains results in beige or tan. With today’s technologies, you can purchase a stain-resistant floor in any color you want. For a modern look, use a durable, stain-resistant floor. Stain resistant carpet gives you a sleek modern look and due to its unique fiber construction, crushing or matting are not a problem either.

Finish off a light and airy room with some functional furniture. Ottomans and coffee tables with storage are a must for storing books and games so you can keep the room looking clean and crisp. Black and white photos are a great way to personalize the room – mix some black and white versions of family photos with some larger pieces.

Mid-Century Modern

Bright white is not for everyone. Modern design opens up the opportunity to use different shapes and colors than those traditionally used for décor. Neutral browns and tans create a great backdrop for funky shapes and colors without distracting from the design. Balance a unique piece of furniture with a simple black couch or chair. Geometric patterns on fabrics and walls give a modern vibe to the room.

Accessorize a mid-century modern room with sleek modern lamps and large-scale graphic prints. This modern room is a comfortable place for the whole family.

Casual Modern

For a modern living room that is everyone’s favorite hangout, casual and comfortable are the primary focus. A large sectional sofa with modern lines provides lots of room for the entire family and friends. A cream or neutral color is a little more relaxed than bright white but still fresh and clean.

A great option for flooring in a modern room is a light colored hardwood or laminate. But for a comfortable family living room, a cozy area rug is always a good idea. For a simple rug, any carpet can be bound on the edges to make a rug.

Amethyst is a great accent color that is new and modern but not overly bright. A light violet carpet and a few amethyst pillows provide the perfect pop of color. Keep accent furniture and accessories simple and modern by sticking with glass and chrome.

A modern room is a great option for families that like clean, straight lines and simple, clutter-free rooms. With today’s versatile furniture, stain-resistant fabrics and flooring that stands up to a busy family, achieving a modern look is more realistic then ever.

Home Decor Trends for 2015

Changes in home décor trends are more subtle than fashion, but they do change from year to year. Keeping a home on trend could be as simple as updating a paint color or it could mean a complete overhaul. It’s up to a home owner how much they want to update their home to align with the trends. Carpet One Floor & Home worked with interior designers and product experts to compile 2015 design trends for the whole home.
Colors:
Beautiful indigo blue is making a splash in home décor and works with many different design styles. Much of the color inspiration for 2015 is drawn from nature making designs feel comfortable and natural.
Floors:
Look for a more relaxed outlook in carpets and area rugs with distressed and striated patterns. Hardwoods are getting more relaxed too with reclaimed looks. For vinyl, styles that look like wood are popular for 2015.
Cabinets:
In cabinetry, convenience is the name of the game for 2015. Clever and functional tools make busy lives a little bit easier. There are also more open concept cabinets and shelving available that show off beautiful dishes and accessories.
Lighting:
Beauty and function combine in 2015’s lighting trends. Outdoor lighting that accents architectural features is becoming more and more popular and will help highlight the beauty of a home’s exterior well into the night.

We are excited about all the 2015 trends and can’t wait to help our customers incorporate them into their home.  Photo, inspiration and more trends can be found in Carpet One Floor & Home’s winter issue of their Beautiful Design Made Simple digital magazine. The magazine is free to download on both Apple and Android devices. Find out more at BeautifulDesignMadeSimple.com/digitalmagazine.

DOES HARDWOOD FLOORING MAKE SENSE IN KITCHENS?

There are many reasons why hardwood flooring makes sense in your kitchen. One main consideration, of course, is cost. In general, hardwood flooring is less expensive than tile floors. It is more cost effective to install, and can be installed directly on top of a plywood base rather than having to do extensive sub floor preparation.   This is a surprise to many of my customers, but it’s a pleasant surprise since most would prefer hardwood anyway.

Hardwood floors can give your kitchen area a larger appearance, particularly if the rest of the homes floors are done in the same material. Having hardwood floors throughout the home brings the rooms together, and is in high demand in new homes. This will help in a sale if you ever decide to sell.

Hardwood floors do not have grout to deal with, which can easily collect dirt in a kitchen. This makes a hardwood floor much easier to clean, and to keep clean. They last longer than tile floors, and are always in style. Tile can crack and break over time, and become discolored – if a hardwood floor needs refinishing, it can simply be sanded down and refinished rather than having to be torn up and replaced. Your kitchen floor takes a great deal of abuse – spills, spots and dirt – and you need a floor that can be easily wiped up. With proper maintenance, it will last for many years.

A hardwood floor with a satin finish is the best choice for a kitchen floor, as it does a better job of hiding food and dirt spills. When selecting the type of flooring to use in the kitchen – and elsewhere in the house – remember that certain woods, such as oak, maple and cherry, are the most durable choices. Distressed pine flooring is frequently chosen because of the rustic appearance; however, pine will show dents and scratches more easily than a hard wood.

As long as you are willing to take good care of your wood floor, it will serve you well in the kitchen for a many years! This makes it a great choice for a kitchen floor.
